Help astronomers explore the Universe at Galaxy Zoo

The Galaxy Zoo files contain almost a quarter of a million galaxies which have been imaged with a camera attached to a robotic telescope (the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, no less). In order to understand how these galaxies — and our own — formed, we need your help to classify them according to their shapes — a task at which your brain is better than even the fastest computer.

More than 150,000 people have taken part in Galaxy Zoo so far, producing a wealth of valuable data and sending telescopes on Earth and in space chasing after their discoveries. Zoo 2 focuses on the nearest, brightest and most beautiful galaxies, so to begin exploring the Universe, click the ‘How To Take Part’ link above, or read ‘The Story So Far’ to find out what Galaxy Zoo has achieved to date.

Skype call recorder

This is a free Skype recording program which automatically recorders all your Skype conversations and conferences. It saves Skype conversations in compact and widely used format - mp3 files. This tool records P2P Skype calls, SkypeOut calls, as well as calls to Skype Online number . This program seats in the system tray and monitors skype calls and start the recording automatically when you start conversation. It can record several simultaneous calls (eg. one active while others on hold) in separate files for easy and convenient access. Very simple interface requires virtually no tuning or setup. Just install it, allow access to the Skype client and that's it.

I just started using Skype to help reduce the minutes used on my cell phone. The calls are clear, no lagging, very cheap and its dead easy to get up and running. This software seems like a good utility to have when those situations popup and you want to record the call.

Free-Pad-Database.com stole my PadDatabase.com's website

The thieves at Free-Pad-Database.com stole the layout and copy of my PadDatabase.com website. Just check out the structure of the website and the copy on the pages (especially the homepage copy and the FAQ page). Pretty sad that free-pad-database.com are nothing but thieves stealing the hard work of others. I wouldn't trust anything from people who steal the copy and work of others.

Amazon Kindle 2 review

Let me start by saying that the Kindle 2 is a nice upgrade over the original Kindle, but we're not talking a jump from, say, black-and-white television to color, so early adopters who own the original Kindle shouldn't feel too dejected.

Yes, the Kindle 2 is thinner--it measures a svelte 0.36 inches at its thickest point--and weighs in at 10.2 ounces. It also has 25 percent improved battery life and is about 20 percent faster, thanks to an upgraded processor. And it's got 16 shades of gray instead of 4, so the text pops a little more. But this is an evolution, not a revolution.

Find people by searching the deep-web

Pipl's query-engine helps you find deep web pages that cannot be found on regular search engines.

Not too bad. Did a few searches and the results were fairly broad and it returned alot of accurate information. The results were better than what you can get from Google - at least in the same time frame.

Google launches Measurement Lab for detecting ISP throttling

Measurement Lab (M-Lab) is an open, distributed server platform for researchers to deploy Internet measurement tools. The goal of M-Lab is to advance network research and empower the public with useful information about their broadband connections. By enhancing Internet transparency, M-Lab helps sustain a healthy, innovative Internet.

When an Internet application doesn't work as expected, how can you tell whether the problem is caused by your broadband connection, the application or something else? It can be very difficult for professional network administrators, let alone average Internet users, to answer this sort of question today.

Transparency has always been an essential component of the Internet's success, and Internet users deserve to be well-informed about the performance of their broadband connections. For that to happen, researchers need resources to develop new analytical tools.
